About Service Specialties LLC

Service Specialties didn’t begin in a boardroom—it began with a realization.

Andrew Taylor was working long shifts in a factory, watching his family struggle to find opportunity, and knowing there had to be a better way—not just for himself, but for the people closest to him.

“It just felt like the thing to do… to start a company, to take care of my family.”

What started as an idea quickly became a mission: to build a company that would deliver reliable water and wastewater service in Kentucky, while putting people first—family, employees, and customers alike.

The company launched with $30,000—$20,000 from Tom’s retirement and $10,000 scraped together through overtime. Equipment was stored in a barn. The office was Andrew’s kitchen table.

“We were looking at each other—well, now what are we going to do?”

Then something unexpected happened.

“The first day, the phone started ringing… and it’s been ringing ever since.”

From those early days, word began to spread about a team that could be trusted for municipal water system repair and maintenance when it mattered most.

The early days weren’t easy.

Andrew worked all day in the field, handling pump repairs, electrical systems, and wastewater equipment, then spent nights managing the business side.

“I’d work all day and come in and do paperwork half the night… then get up and do it all again.”

But the foundation was already there—decades of hands-on experience and a commitment to delivering dependable water and wastewater maintenance services across Kentucky.

Like many service companies, Service Specialties faced uncertainty during the recession.

Work slowed dramatically as municipalities delayed preventative maintenance and infrastructure repairs.

“We had almost no business all summer… we were just kind of scraping by.”

Then the turnaround came.

“All of a sudden… everything was broke… and we were double and triple busy.”

Their persistence paid off—and reinforced their role as a trusted provider of emergency wastewater repair services.

From the beginning, Service Specialties took a different approach.

While many companies focused on selling new equipment, this team focused on something more valuable: repairing and maintaining existing water and wastewater systems.

“I’m not here to sell you anything… what I’m here to do is fix your problems.”

Their approach centers on:

  • Diagnosing the root cause
  • Providing cost-effective pump and system repairs
  • Avoiding unnecessary replacements
  • Delivering practical solutions for municipal water and wastewater operations

The company’s reputation wasn’t built in easy moments—it was built in the most critical ones.

When systems failed—whether it was sewer pump stations, water supply issues, or electrical failures—Service Specialties responded quickly.

“Some of our best customer experiences happen at the worst of times.”

One example still stands out:

“They called us late Friday… both pumps were burnt up… we worked all weekend rebuilding them and had them back in Monday morning.”

This level of responsiveness has made them a go-to provider for emergency pump repair and wastewater system service in eastern Kentucky.

What started as a way to support a family became something much bigger.

Andrew, his father Tom, his siblings and his wife built a company rooted in shared values and real-world experience in water and wastewater service work.

“I couldn’t have done it without them… Dad brought a ton of experience… and taught us to never give up.”

Today, that same mindset extends to their entire team.

“It seems like the family’s just expanded… our employees are just like family.”
